Kshitish Bishal

Kshitish Bishal is an Oriya painter settled in Canning, an abandoned port town in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, India. He is a sculpture, painter and museum curator. Over the past thirty years he has been painting sketches that capture the folk life in the delta. He is also the Principal of a panting school- Srivasti Art Trustand founded of the local museum Matla Ancholik Sangrayshala.
 
His portraits cover themes such as fakir, pir, mangrove forest, village environment, coastal water, country boat and cyclone affected community. His paintings have been displayed in major art exhibitions in Indian and abroad. His work belongs to Bengal modern art. Over the years his artwork has creatively evolved through the adoption of scroll painting themes like gazi that display  laminal religiosity. Besides being an accomplished painter he is a NGO worker who has developed sketches for rural communication programmes in the Sundarbans.
